The Power of the Dog has attracted plenty of international media attention recently - being nominated for 12 Oscars across a range of categories. Scenes from this movie were filmed in Central Otago locations including the Maniototo and Bannockburn. The dry, barren nature of the Bannockburn Sluicing’s, the dust, schist and weathered land formations and the wide-open spaces of the Maniototo, the sky and rolling ranges of the Hawkduns feature heavily in the film. It is easy to imagine visitors could be drawn to the region off the back of these scenes and The Power of the Dog adds to the notion that Central Otago is a place from which world class artists draw inspiration. Central inspires art - be it film, poems, painting and more and we hope to be welcoming more renowned movie makers to paradise off the back of these accolades.
