The Wednesday Group are painters who gather once a week and are tutored by Bannockburn artist Megan Huffadine. Their end of year exhibition will be held at the Athenaeum Hall in Arrowtown from December 10 – 13, 10am -4 pm daily. This group of painters travel from the Queenstown, Wanaka, Hawea and Cromwell area to attend classes in Bannockburn.

Some of the members of the group have been working for several years, others are beginning their journey with painting. The group ranges in age with oldest member and regular attendee being 89 years old.

This exhibition is a celebration of their commitment to their work in the face of a difficult year. During lockdown, tutor Megan Huffadine continued to teach the group through online classes. This has resulted in a considerable development of their painting skills. Classes stopped briefly during Level 2 and then resumed with the appropriate safety steps being taken as you can see in the exhibition poster. It was decided to use this photo taken by Sonja Kooy of the class at the end of the day during critique as a marker of a challenging yet significant year for many.
