Already the trees includes my trademark of traditional black and white imagery, in this case of trees on the land - my oasis of peace and solitude in the mists of life and darkness.

These are juxtaposed with large colour images of chained - sawed tree stumps - almost medical in their detail but simply trees getting in the way of a suburban footpath. These in turn are contrasted by toned images of the complexity of intertwining branches.

The series reflects my growing alarm at the destruction taking place in forests and the development of a comprehensive serries of works around these issues and themes of fragility, destruction, solitude, companionship, beauty, hope, life and how to live it. In essence a metaphor as Annemarie (my wife) lived these last five and a half years with incurable breast cancer.
