Gallery Thirty Three are pleased to announce the opening of two new exhibitions next week, The Messengers by Tim Main and Wānaka Peaks by Matt Payne.

Matt Payne's paintings are inspired by a love of New Zealand's landscapes and coastlines, which he translates into dramatic compositions depicted with vivid colour and extraordinary attention to detail. The paintings in 'Wānaka Peaks' depict breathtaking views of the surrounding alpine region.

Tim Main's practice celebrates the remarkable geometric harmony evident in the forms of the natural world. For Main the pleasure of the aesthetic experience lies in finding a balance between a guiding structure and a variety of embellishments; a harmony of order and movement. Made from reclaimed oak and unglazed black stoneware ceramic, his works are often wall mounted, creating shadows that add dimension and depth 'The Messengers' in this case are the beloved New Zealand native bird the piwakawaka fantail. Fantails have an extraordinary altitudinal range that extends from sea level to the snow line, which may be why the messengers resonate so strongly throughout Aotearoa
