About TEDx, x = independently organised event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxQueenstown, where x = independently organised TED event. At our TEDxQueenstown event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organised.

This independent TEDx event is operated under license from TED.

Start building up an appetite! TEDxQueenstown 2016's event is going to be a feast for your eyes, your ears and of course your tastebuds!

This year's theme, Connexions (see what we did there?) are all around us. From me to you, and from all of us to the universe - connexions are everywhere. Relationships, mesh, nodes, community, micro and macro systems are all words that spring to mind when we think connexions.

With some incredible speakers already announced and more to be released soon, you are in for an afternoon of treats for the mind and soul! Be prepared for mind-blowing talks interspersed with delectable food and drink from local sources in our interactive breakout space.

Speakers released so far include:

Patrick Dodson, who has spent the last 25 years in over 30 countries and has practiced as a chef, photographer, writer, public speaker and organiser. His talk will be based on his idea that your career need not be defining.

Liz Breslin is the first TEDxQueenstown 2016 performer to be announced. A writer and performance poet, Ms Breslin was runner up in the 2014 New Zealand National Poetry Slam. “I’ve centred the performance around a quote by 20th Century writer E.M. Forster, “Only connect the prose and the passion... live in fragments no longer.”

Ken Clearwater is an activist promoting greater awareness and understanding of male sexual abuse. Ken is a member of New Zealand’s only group supporting male survivors of abuse, MSSAT (Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse Trust) and he says he’s keen to talk about the problem no one seems to want to hear. "This is a human rights issue, not a gender issue and it has to be addressed"

World record climbers and social activists, twins Tashi and Nungshi Malik say climbing physical mountains is to draw attention to millions of our girls in India and much of the developing world who have to climb their daily 'invisible' mountains merely to survive.

We can't wait for you to join us in April, to explore our connexions together. For more information and to stay in touch, head to www.tedxqueenstown.com
