Opportunity for Rangatahi with Netsafe 2026
Dates: Wed, 1 April 2026 - Sun, 31 May 2026
Got something to say about being online? Are you a young person based in Otago (Central or Dunedin) who has something to say about being online? We want to hear from you!
Being online is a big part of everyday life - and young people notice things adults often miss. This project brings together rangatahi (ages 13–17) from across Otago to talk honestly about online life and work on projects that make things better. Netsafe is launching a new youth-led digital wellbeing initiative across Otago in 2026, and we’d love your support.
The Otago Young Digital Leaders project is a three-year initiative funded by the Otago Community Trust and the Central Lakes Trust. It supports young people to explore the real digital challenges they’re experiencing, from online harm and misinformation to social media pressures, and to co-design practical, community-focused solutions.
This isn’t a top-down programme. It’s about young people leading, collaborating across schools and communities, and building confidence as digital citizens and changemakers.
In 2026 we’ll be running two pilot groups (Central Otago and Dunedin), and we’re currently inviting young people to express interest. You don’t need any experience. We’re looking for young people with ideas, opinions, curiosity, or a willingness to give things a go.
