  • Central Otago Regional Choir - A World of Song – from Sweden to Samoa (Alexandra, Arrowtown and Wanaka).

Under the expert direction of Richard Madden and accompanied by  Queenstown pianist Alison Frude, this performance promises a whirlwind tour of the globe in the universal language of song.

You can expect a vibrant programme of 12 songs in seven languages, including timeless favourites such as Londonderry Air, Shenandoah and Loch Lomond, cultural treasures such as Furusato and the moving Wairua Tapu, bookended by the high energy Negro spiritual Little David, Play on Yo’ Harp and the infectious rhythms of the Samoan dance song, Minoi Minoi.

Guest artists will be University of Otago students Natasha Manowitz (mezzo soprano) and Portia Bell (cello). These are the first recipients of a new initiative by the choir to offer monetary and performance opportunities to four students each year.  Expect exceptional musicianship from these performers.  Both will be accompanied by regular guest of the choir, pianist Cameron Monteath who will also impress with the Kapustin Variations Opus 41, a high energy piece requiring magical dexterity.

Tickets $30 from choir members, Paper Plus in Wanaka, Alexandra and Cromwell, Lakes District Museum, Arrowtown and Unichem Summerfield’s Pharmacy, Frankton.
