Across the Bridge in Bannockburn 2020 Announcement.

Region: Bannockburn
Dates: Tue, 23 June 2020 - Sun, 11 October 2020 @ Get Creative Now!

  • Across the Bridge in Bannockburn 2020 Announcement.

Save the date: Bannockburn Art Festival ‘Across the Bridge’ will be held on 6-11 October 2020. The Festival, now in its 9th year, will focus on local Central Otago talent this year, but will add other talented New Zealanders, and possibly beyond, according to restrictions being lifted or (hopefully not!) imposed.

Meanwhile: please get creative and write a poem! There are two competitions available as part of the festival. The Poetry Competition is now in its third year and attracts over one hundred entries, in two categories – schools students and adults. There are prizes, and an opportunity for winners to have their poem published in the CO News. The adult section is open; the student section has the theme ‘Isolation' prescribed, though that may be interpreted in any way.

The organizing committee are excited to announce that a second poetry event, a Poetry Slam, will be introduced this year. It will be presented by performance poets Liz Breslin and Laura Williamson. Heats will be held in Queenstown, Wanaka and Alexandra before the festival and the adult winner will be funded to attend the national finals.  The student winner will receive a cash prize.

So get those creative juices flowing now. For further details, please email;

It has all been a little up in the air this year, of course, but the committee decided back in March that we would continue, with a flexible programme, and a final programme will be ready for the printers in July. We welcome Philip Tremewan, Wanaka’s Festival of Colour director, as a facilitator this year and we will have our usual high-quality selection of artists, art workshops, writers, drama, music, food and wine.

A final programme will be available in the September edition of this newsletter, but if you would like to be added to our mailing list, please email; Heather McPherson on
