What's happening in Central Otago
Central Otago Regional Choir's Spring Concert Series. Wanaka, Arrowtown and Alexandra.
Region: Central Otago
Dates: Fri, 29 November 2019 - Sun, 1 December 2019
Enthralling performances by world-renowned organist Kemp English and virtuoso violinist Yuka Eguchi will be highlights of the Central Otago Regional Choir’s Spring Concert series at the end of November. Kemp, in his dual role as soloist and the choir’s accompanist, returns to Central Otago after a year’s absence and is joined by a special guest artist, Yuka Eguchi, the Assistant Concertmaster of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. Together they will perform a selection of stunning and unforgettable music written for violin and organ.
The concert features several choral masterpieces, opening with Parry’s celebrated setting of Psalm 122. Who could forget the magnificent organ introduction or the choir’s energetic affirmation of the opening words, “I was glad.” Two of Bruckner’s most sublime motets follow, transporting listeners to a world of exquisite beauty. Then in the second half of the concert, experience the unique magic of Mozart in a performance of his most popular “Coronation” Mass K317 with its rich tapestry of deeply personal emotions and exuberant joy. Written for choir and soloists, the solo vocal parts will be sung, as they would have been originally, by a quartet of talented singers from within the choir. The conductor for this concert series will be Alison Frude, as she steps out from her familiar role of chorister and rehearsal pianist.
A concert full of surprises! Join us for this celebration of music at its best!
