Cardrona Hall - Celtic Musicians

Location: Historic Cardrona Hall
Region: Wanaka
Dates: Fri, 8 April 2011 @ 8pm

Andy Irvine from Ireland almost single handedly began the incredible revival of interest in traditional Irish music in the 1970's.   He formed or played with many legendary Irish groups including Sweeney's Men. Planxty, De Dannan, Patrick Street and Mozaik.  This is the man described as " Ireland's Woody Guthrie, with a philospher's ear and a prophet's passionate voice.    He is a stunning singer with an instantly recognisable voice and a superb instrumentalist as well, weaving fantastic harmonies and rhythms into his repertoire.

Rens van der Zalm is a wonderful musician of multiple talents - equally accomplished on guitar, violin, mandolin, accordion and whistle.    His instrumental skills are complimented by his ability to apply his expertise to a wide variety of musical styles, covering a repertoire from folk to jazz to classical.

Together they are without doubt two of the world's most formidable exponents of traditional music, the two of them together often sounding like a full celtic band.   Both are members of the internatioanl supergroup Mozaik and present a stunning repertoire of songs and music from a wide range of traditional backgrounds in addition to original songs penned by Irvine.

The concert takes place at the Historic Cardrona Hall on Friday 8th April, starting at 8.00 p.m.    Tickets are $25 and will be on sale at Pembroke Wines and Spirits, Dungarvon Street, Wanaka.    For non-Wanaka residents they can be reserved by ringing Martin Curtis on 03 443 8152.
