WOODCUT PRINT EXHIBITION

A collection of relief prints by the students of Epi High School, Vanuatu.

Janelle Aston and Michelle Page exhibit works from Epi High School students in Vanuatu. Their Trust have set up an art school to encourage the students to express themselves and connect to their culture through art. Art is not included in the school curriculum. They feel that the people of Vanuatu have a strong connection between their culture and environment and it provides them with excellent subject matter for conveying ideas and images through an art making process.

The recording of their daily life experiences in Vanuatu is of significant value and interest to others while encouraging a creative outlet for the students. Creating art also gives the students another option as a future career that they can pursue from their own village.

Around 40 students from grade 7 to 10.

Janelle is a qualified secondary school art teacher from New Zealand and has also worked in the film industry as a prop and set designer.

Michelle Page, as part of the Trust and through the NZ Pacific Island Investment Commission in 2006, sponsored David Ambong, who works at Vila Hand prints, to exhibit in NZ.

Artwork will be for sale with all proceeds going directly back to the school for continuing art education.

Opening Night: Friday 9 September 2016, 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Exhibition is on display until 16 October 2016.
