Southland-born Elizabeth Morrison (Kai Tahu) is based in TÄhuna Queenstown, and has whakapapa to WaihÅpai (Invercargill) and MotupÅhue (Bluff).
Her tÅ«puna Meri Kauri and founder of Bluff James Spencer were one of the earliest MÄori-PÄkeha marriages in the region, and Elizabeth’s whÄnau have always retained a strong connection to the whenua there.
Elizabeth has been painting original oils on canvas for over 30 years. Drawing inspiration from her tÅ«puna to portray traditional pÅ«rakau (stories) of the deep south, including the legend of MÄtau the sleeping giant of Whakatipu-Wai-MÄori (Lake Wakatipu). When not working on canvas, Elizabeth can be found attending wÄnanga at her marae in Bluff, having begun her rÄranga (weaving) journey working with harakeke.
Her works can be found in private collections across Aotearoa and abroad.
