Location: Artbay Gallery
Region: Queenstown
Dates: Thu, 14 August 2025 - Wed, 3 September 2025 @ Daily.

Southland-born Elizabeth Morrison (Kai Tahu) is based in Tāhuna Queenstown, and has whakapapa to Waihōpai (Invercargill) and Motupōhue (Bluff).

Her tÅ«puna Meri Kauri and founder of Bluff James Spencer were one of the earliest Māori-Pākeha marriages in the region, and Elizabeth’s whānau have always retained a strong connection to the whenua there.

Elizabeth has been painting original oils on canvas for over 30 years. Drawing inspiration from her tūpuna to portray traditional pūrakau (stories) of the deep south, including the legend of Mātau the sleeping giant of Whakatipu-Wai-Māori (Lake Wakatipu). When not working on canvas, Elizabeth can be found attending wānanga at her marae in Bluff, having begun her rāranga (weaving) journey working with harakeke.

Her works can be found in private collections across Aotearoa and abroad.
