Denise Baynham's compelling portrait series transforms historical documentation into intimate visual storytelling. This exhibition captures 551 New Zealand naval veterans who served during Operation Grapple – Britain's nuclear weapons testing program in the Pacific between 1957-1958.
Working as both photographer and oral historian, Baynham has created a deeply personal body of work that honours these men while exploring themes of memory, service, and the passage of time. Shot in the veterans' own homes, each portrait reveals not just a face, but a lifetime of experiences built around extraordinary service.
