Textile and mixed-media artist Jan Fraser presents a stunning collection of felted textiles and paintings that explore connection to land, ancestry, and identity.

The exhibition title, 'Hono', a te reo Māori word meaning to join, connect, or laminate, speaks to both Fraser's innovative technique and the deeper themes of her work. Fraser's practice merges wool with other materials to create unique surfaces that accept traditional mediums such as inks and paints, resulting in a striking fusion of textile craft and fine art.

 This deeply personal exhibition honors Fraser's rural heritage. Growing up on a King Country sheep and beef farm, she brings decades of connection to wool into her studio. The wool used in these works comes from Matakanui Station near Alexandra, the very property where her father began his farming career in 1951.

Fraser's work has earned significant recognition, including 2nd runner-up overall at Alexandra's Wool-On 2024 with her mountain landscape coat. Her practice represents an evolution from felted craft to fine art for the wall, translating the colours, textures, and forms of the high country into contemplative works.
