Kākaunui | Kakanui explores the landscapes, skyscapes, waterscapes and environment surrounding Kakanui on the North Otago coast. It is an area that has a special place in my heart and holds fond special memories.

It is a town and area that gives me a sense of hope for the future in the enduring quality of the water and clouds - they provide a minimalist sense of peace and a sense of place - the type of place we need to protect.

The images speak quietly of ongoing development in the present but also of a time in the past when life perhaps seemed simpler and communities smaller and more personal.

This exhibition  represents a survey of my work in and around Kakanui over the period 2016 - 2022. Stylistically, my photos reflect the black and white iconic photographic traditions of the Califormia School of Phoptography from the 1940’s - 1950’s - Edward Weston, Ansell Adams, Minor White.

Eric Schusser is an an award winning photographic artist whose focus includes black and white landscape photography, abstract photography and social documentary work through the telling of stories via image and text.
