Sculpture in Central Otago
Location: Rippon Vineyard, Wanaka
Region: Wanaka
Dates: Sat, 5 February 2011 - Sun, 1 May 2011
Now heading into its 6th event, Sculpture in Central Otago – on from Waitangi weekend to 1 May 2011 – promises to be one of the foremost cultural events on Central Otago’s summer/autumn calendar. With an impressive line up of works by New Zealand’s leading sculptors boldly exhibited at the internationally acclaimed biodynamic Rippon Vineyard, one of Central Otago’s leading wine producers, art, jazz, and wine lovers alike will be keen to secure their tickets to the opening weekend of this not-to-be-missed event. This well-attended and unique open air exhibition which runs for three months, attracts a New Zealand-wide audience, overseas visitors, locals and other sage art enthusiasts in equal measures. With all of this on the menu it’s no wonder that this event has attracted such a loyal following since its inception in 2004.
Sculpture in Central Otago operates under the Wanaka Arts Charitable Trust (WACT), whose primary aim is to promote sculpture and fine art throughout New Zealand with particular emphasis on the Wanaka and Central Otago Region. While celebrating the landscape, the talent and diversity of New Zealand sculptors and the beauty of Rippon Vineyard, the event also contributes to the local community, making a financial donation each year to a community project.
New Zealand’s leading sculptors are invited to exhibit at Sculpture in Central Otago. The 2011 line-up includes Gary Baynes, Russell Beck, Graham Bennett, Julie Butler, Bing Dawe, Paul Dibble, Jane Downes, Ben Foster, Aaron Frater, Mark Hill, Martin Hill, Philip Jarvis, Duncan Leask, Cheryl Lucas, Ernie Maluschnig, Doug Neil, Rose Petterson, Dan Rutherford, Anna Scott, Jenny Smith, Johnny Turner, Richard Wedekind, Mark Whyte, Shane Woolridge, James Wright and Bruce Young.
