  • Natalia Lomeiko Recital with Kirsten Robertson - Wanaka

Internationally acclaimed violinist Natalia Lomeiko is coming to Wanaka!

Natalia Lomeiko was the winner of the second Michael Hill International Violin Competition in 2003 and is currently a Professor at the prestigious Royal College of Music in London.

She is a spectacular violinist and will be performing with pianist Kirsten Robertson who accompanied Anna Leese and the Takiri Ensemble last year and who performs regularly with the NZSO.

Natalia is coming to Wanaka because the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra has invited this wonderful violinist to be part its 50th anniversary.  The Symphony’s General Manager asked whether we would like Natalia to perform in Wanaka.  Of course we said “Yes please!”

The programme will be:

  • Beethoven Sonata No.8 in G major
  • Tchaikovsky Meditation

Interval

  • Franck Sonata in A major
  • Brahms Scherzo

Natalia Lomeiko launched her solo career at the age of seven with the Novosibirsk Philharmonic. A few years later she was invited to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School, hailed by Menuhin as ‘one of the most brilliant of our younger violinists’. After completing her studies at the Royal College and the Royal Academy of Music she won several prestigious international competitions, including first prize in the Premio Paganini in Italy and Michael Hill in New Zealand. She has appeared with major orchestras around the world, including the St Petersburg Radio Symphony, Tokyo Royal Philharmonic, the New Zealand Symphony, Auckland Philharmonia, Melbourne Symphony, Royal Philharmonic and many other orchestras. She has performed chamber music with such renowned musicians as Gidon Kremer, Tabea Zimmermann, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Shlomo Mintz, Boris Pergamenschikov, Isabelle Faust and Yuri Bashmet. She has recorded for Dynamic, Foné and Trust Records with pianist Olga Sitkovetsky. In 2010 she was appointed Professor of Violin at the Royal College of Music in London.

Kirsten Robertson (née Simpson) studied piano performance at University of Canterbury with Diedre Irons and at the Royal College of Music in London with Gordon Fergus-Thompson, John Blakely and Roger Vignoles.
