Festival of Colour - Encounters with Rodney and Jol, Bannockburn.
Location: Bannockburn Hall, Hall Rd, Bannockburn.
Region: Bannockburn
Dates: Wed, 14 April 2021 @ 6pm
This special event is a behind the scenes look at Meremere.
Come and meet dancer and performer Rodney Bell and musician Jol Mulholland at this intimate setting. See them dance, hear them play music and talk about how this work was created.
Meremere will be performed on Sunday 18 April at the Lake Wanaka Centre.
This powerful, engaging work focuses on Rodney's time living rough on the streets of San Francisco. A courageous response to an incredible series of life events; an inspirational performance with live music from exceptional artist Jol Mulholland.
A critically acclaimed dancer and performer, Rodney is renowned for his physically integrated performance. In 2007, Rodney joined AXIS Dance Company (USA) as a principal dancer for five years. Before his return home, Rodney experienced a period of homelessness on the streets of San Francisco: a life-changing experience that inspired the creation of Meremere. The show has garnered a veritable bouquet of awards.
“This autobiographical, multi-disciplinary and life-affirming survival story drew the cheering
opening night audience to its feet.” - Dominion Post
“Meremere is a complex work of art where design, AV and lighting play as significant a role as story-telling, music and dance.” - NZ Herald, October 2016
