What's happening in Central Otago
Central Otago Regional Orchestra - 'Winter Magic'.
Location: Alexandra and Wanaka.
Region: South Island
Dates: Sat, 8 June 2019 - Sun, 9 June 2019 @ 8th June, 7pm. 9th June, 2.30pm.
The Central Otago Regional Orchestra is now preparing for the June concert - on the 8th in Wanaka and the 9th Alexandra. The theme of "Winter Magic" was chosen as the opening
piece features the music of J.K.Rowling's Harry Potter, the highly popular magical novel. It is the no 1 best seller appealing to a wide range of ages and in particular to young teens.
A recent quote -- “Harry Potter is surely THE most kid-friendly music on the planet!” More than 50% of the orchestra knew the music and with the descriptive enthusiasm of Ashley Hopkins, our conductor, the remainder picked up its magic quickly. As always orchestra members are encouraging young and former players which is one of the reasons Harry Potter has been chosen. There’s more that will be attractive to the young of heart with the performance of Perky the Pukeko composed and played by Cathy Irons. It features the sounds of individual instruments and the accompanying dialogue will be by a special guest narrator. Children are very welcome and admission is free. Cathy will go on to play "Ferdinand the Bull". She will continue with the magic theme as the orchestra joins her in performing the Wieniawski Violin Concerto No 2 - more about that later.
