Exhibited together for the first time, these last remaining examples outside of private collections form part of one of the artist's earliest series of paintings. Completed in Auckland in 2000 and 2001, these paintings were made by Marc just after graduating University and were some of the final works made in New Zealand, before his highly formative years spent living and working in Japan, which would see the evolution of what would become a signature style for the next decade.

Reflecting many of the core influences and concepts that would go on to inform his later work, these are sparse, minimal, monochromatic and uniquely original fusions of drawing and painting, where the dense, textural grounds form chunks of wall upon which coded pictograms are scrawled, reflecting the era in which they were made.  Symbolic and autobiographical, these works hint at the artists' location and life at the turn of the millennium and are the final "analogue" paintings made by Blake before his early adoption of digital sources and image editing that are still key to his work today.
