PKay Maracin

Old Jailhouse, 57 Erris St, Cromwell

American by birth, Germany for the career, Aotearoa for the love. After living on three continents I settled in Old Cromwell in 2007.
I am a weaver and textile designer, and was the recipient of Creative Fibre NZ’s 2024 National New Weaver award. I have been working with textiles for over 50 years, learning to sew at a very young age, and to knit as a young adult. Fibre art is most fulfilling. It enables you to become the person you want to be and surround yourself with things you love.
I teach weaving through the Spinners & Weavers Guild, am a member of Creative Fibre and am on the Arts Council being Chair of the biannual ACE Visual Arts Exhibition.
Becoming semi-retired allowed me to refocus my life. My curiosity about and love of fibres has drawn me towards weaving. I am very much influenced by the colours and forms of Latin America and indigenous arts. My favourite fibres are ultra fine linen and NZ fine merino.

You can find me weekly at the Cromwell Farmers & Craft Market and you are welcome to visit me in my studio where you can watch me in the weaving process, and ask any questions about weaving. You can also purchase any of my items available (cash, card).

Open when the sign is out, by chance, and by appointment.
