  • The Warratahs - Queenstown

Kings of the road, titans of country soul, brothers of the back beat; The Warratahs will be celebrating the release of their new album at Brydone Hotel Friday 18th September.

“Runaway Days” is the 7th studio album from The Warratahs in an illustrious career spanning more than 25 years. A career which has won the band the affection of the New Zealand public, has entertained hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders at countless live performances in halls, clubs and pubs all around the country and has given us some great songs that are truly a valuable part of New Zealand Music.

The band was formed to play some of their favourite music - the likes of Jimmie Rogers, Hank Williams, Hank Snow etc plus a handful of their own songs with its brand of country/folk combined with the fire of 50’s style rock and roll. But the band quickly gained prominence with their own music and 86 000 sales of albums later, they are very much still alive.

Barry Saunders voice and songs and Nik Brown’s ability to set the music alight with his violin has remained the basis of the Warratahs sound.

Their first album Only Game in Town spent months in the charts propelled by two hits: Hands of my Heart and Maureen which both become classics.

Their second album Too Hot To Sleep included St Peters Rendezvous for which Barry won Songwriter of the Year.

In 1991 the band toured New Zealand with Billy Joel and a couple of years after with The Highwaymen and Johnny Cash.

They have also toured Australia. In 1999 the band was invited to play the Tamworth Music Festival in Australia and were a hit with audiences playing songs from their new album One of Two Things featuring the hit single Rescue Me.

The latest album - a remastered 19-track Warratahs collection - features Barry Saunders on vocals, guitar and harmonica, Nik Brown violin and mandolin, Maurice Newport drums and Nick Theobald bass and vocals.

The Warratahs will be joined by support act, rising singer/songwriter Jenny Mitchell.

General Admission $30.50
