Goddess of dawn.
Hullabaloo Art Space presents a collaborative exhibition exploring the historical and physical environment of the Aurora track at Bendigo, Cromwell.
Project Aurora originated through a wish to present a collaborative multi-media exhibition which told a cohesive visual story involving individual interpretations. We chose the historic Aurora track at Bendigo as a strong identifying theme and at different times over the course of six months Hullabaloo members explored the track to gain ideas for the project. This source material provides visual allusions and references in our work and, in particular, gives a historical context that informs our present human and physical environment.
HISTORY: The Bendigo area of the lower Dunstan Mountains was one of the richest hard-rock mining areas in NZ between 1863 and the 1930’s. The Aurora track at Welshtown (one hour circular tack) is a unique, picturesque walk through rich mining history containing amongst its remains; numerous deep open mine shafts; two batteries; a stone causeway; well-formed cart tracks; water races; a regenerated Kanuka forest; and Logantown – once containing three hotels, butcher and baker and scattered mining huts. A fascinating track to explore.
We hope you enjoy our visual response to the Aurora track.
