  • The Rhythm of Life

Featuring Sue Patterson and the Remarkable Vocals choral ensemble, The Rhythm of Life is a concert of show songs and jazz pieces for choir. It's on Sunday 7 June at 3pm at the Thomas Brown Gallery in Speargrass Flat Road. We usually have a very good crowd so it’s best to purchase tickets before the day.

We have chosen some favourite show songs from West Side Story and a selection of songs from The Bob Chilcott Jazz Folk Songs. The jazz songs have an energy generated by the blend, rhythm and phrasing wish have been fun to learn and are wonderful to listen to. We believe this is the first time these Chilcott songs have been performed in the South Island.

Equally special is Water Night by Eric Whitacre. This song has purity and perfection reflecting the beautiful words of the Octavio Paz poem, Water Night. The song is best known for its performance by a virtual choir of hundreds on youtube, and is one of Whitacre’s most popular pieces.

The concert includes complimentary half time refreshments.
