Roses from the South - an exhibition of Ambrotypes by Annemarie Hope-Cross

An exhibition in two parts, Roses from the South plays on the Waltz Medley of the same name, written by Strauss in 1880.  Only thirty years earlier, the difficult wet plate collodion photographic process had been invented, and it is this process Annemarie has used to create these images.  Ambrotypes are wet plate collodion images made in the camera onto glass plates, a technique Annemarie learnt whilst studying in England in 2011.

Annemarie used her great Grandfather's ancient bellows camera to create these images, with part one of the exhibition being floral in nature, and the second part being images of Jillian Porteous's raku fired ceramic 'Pioneer Women'

Hullabaloo art space is a contemporary art gallery based in the beautiful historic precinct of Old Cromwell Town, on the shores of Lake Dunstan.

The gallery presents solo and group exhibitions from New Zealand artists. We have a diverse range of work from the disiplines of sculpture, painting, photography, ceramics, printmaking and multimedia.

Hullabaloo art space is an artist run initiative with an artist on duty in the gallery to welcome you and advise on artworks.

We have changing solo exhibitions in a designated ‘room’ within the gallery. The gallery is a spacious white walled space which is rehung every month to keep things fresh for the artists and to inspire and stimulate the visitor.

So come and visit and see what we have to offer now!
