  • Ceilidh and Concert - Cardrona

Hi Everyone,

Just to let you all know about  the Waiorau Nordic Sports Club Ceilidh being held at the Snow Farm Lodge, Cardrona on the evening of 20th September. The band which is playing is made up of a couple of brilliant musicians that you may have seen at Cardrona concerts and festivals over the years. These include :

Jock Walton – vocals and melodeon :   Jock is the token Scot in the band and is extremely well known in Dunedin for his totally extrovert singing and playing at many Celtic functions, dances and concerts in that city.   He was at the very first Cardrona folk festival in 1976, and has been back many times, especially as part of my earlier band Snowgrass.

Marcus Turner – vocals, fiddle, and every other instrument your can think of :    Marcus is a totally world class musician, songwriter and singer, who has been to Cardrona many times.   His songs are being recorded by other artistes all over the world.   He was also at the very first Cardrona festival, and last appeared here in 2012 as part of the ceilidh band that played at the Lake Wanaka Centre for the Cardrona goldrush event.

Patsy Ryan – vocals and mandolin :   Patsy has also been a part of my ceilidh bands over many years, and was last here as part of Jock’s well know Scottish themed band Marannan.   She has a lovely voice and is a great asset to any celtic line-up.

Kay Rowe  - vocals and guitar :  Kay started her career as a country singer in Dunedin and has played with many fine musicians in the country and folk music scenes.

Myself (Martin Curtis) – vocals, guitar and dance caller : I will be M.C for the evening and calling all the traditional dances.   Many of the dances are those that I have collected on my tours in Scotland, Ireland and Wales, and they will all be taught and walked through first before the music starts.    I shall also be singing a few of my songs about New Zealand.

Even if you are a non-dancer, please come along for as well as the foot stomping Celtic music being played by the band,  in true ceilidh tradition there will be also be concerts spots by each of us at regular intervals throughout the evening.

Please see the attached information poster, giving details of the prices for the various options for the evening ( ceilidh / concert only ; ceilidh / concert with meal : or ceilidh / concert, meal and accommodation at the Snowfarm Lodge.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Martin Curtis
