who is crazy, and who is sane?
That question nags at almost all the characters in this hectic, hyperkinetic farce that reunites pj hogan with toni collette, the star of his hit 1995 comedy, muriel’s wedding. collette plays shaz, an unkempt, bong-smoking, knife-carrying nanny hired off the street by barry moochmore (anthony lapaglia), the mayor of dolphin heads, a coastal town in queensland.
based on events in hogan’s own childhood, the film follows an eccentric family of misfits who, after their sound of music-obsessed mother suffers a nervous breakdown, are cared for by a foul-mouthed hitchhiker.
