Wanaka Medieval Festival

Location: Rippon Hall
Region: Wanaka
Dates: Sat, 5 November 2016

  • Wanaka Medieval Festival

Holy Family Catholic School will bring a slice of medieval life to Wanaka. The tranquil surrounds of the Rippon Hall will be transformed into a medieval village complete with artisan crafts, a knights' encampment, roving musicians, peddlers and much more.
There are numerous free demonstrations and hands-on activities on offer, suitable for all ages. Archery, stone carving, wood turning, spinning and weaving, bread making, horsemanship displays and hobby horse jousting, trebuchet (catapult) firing, serfs’ relays, period dancing, costume making and calligraphy workshops, to name just a handful.
Medieval times inspire the fantasy and fiction we all love. Whether you are a re-enactment enthusiast or just want to enjoy a unique family experience come and be enthralled by the bravery of our knights in full armoured combat and captivated by the lilting tunes of plainchant and the skill of period puppeteers with life-sized marionettes. There is something for everyone.
To add to the atmosphere of the day we’d love if you could dress in period costume and join in the opening and closing processions. There is a King’s ransom to be won if you do! Starting at 11am till 4pm!
