34 of New Zealand’s finest young brass musicians up to the age of 23 are selected from brass bands across the country to form the New Zealand National Youth Brass Band.  They represent some of the best emerging musical talent the nation has on offer.

Hot on the heels of last year’s very successful tour of China, the band has elected to begin its 2013 summer concert schedule in Roxburgh’s wonderful Entertainment Centre on 31st January, a superb venue for presenting ensemble music of this quality.

The members of this band bring an extraordinary breadth of experience to the stage for our enjoyment – some have worked with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Auckland Philharmonic, the New Zealand Army Band, the music departments of New Zealand leading universities, and even the UK’s legendary Black Dyke Mills Band, the world’s oldest and most famous brass band.

With a wide and varied programme that will appeal to all tastes, don’t expect the night to be a yawnfest – this ain’t your great uncle Alfred’s brass band on Sunday hymn duty!  Far from it, this is a young, vibrant and exciting brass band that’s leading the next generation of top New Zealand brass musicians.  They are sure to awaken and enliven your every sense with the rich colourful tones of brass music.

A reviewer said after a 2009 concert, “something for everyone, each item a highlight in its own way, but all played with a great deal of energy and enthusiasm, a tremendous feeling of style.  Superior musicianship was on display across all sections of the band.”
