Tottle Trio - Alexandra
- Telephone 03 4486230
Location: Central Stories Museum & Art Gallery
Region: Alexandra
Dates: Sun, 4 May 2014 @ 3:00pm - 4:45pm
The glorious sound of trumpet, strings and piano will blend together as Cathy Irons (violin), Bruce Roberts (trumpet) and Grant Bartley (piano) present a chamber music concert performing as the Tottle Trio.
They will explore some outstanding repertoire for this combination, with each piece expertly composed to show off the sounds and techniques of the instruments performing.
Two of the trio pieces are American. The Ewazen is similar to Copland in many ways - it is evocative music creating sonorities and moods that range from gentle and soft to full and rich. Stephenson is expressive and hauntingly beautiful.
Ewazen Trio for Trumpet, Violin and Piano
Beethoven Violin Sonata No 8 in G major
Faure Pavane (arranged for trio)
John Williams Schindler's List
Stephenson The Storyteller
Cathy Irons (violin)
Cathy played in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, South Africa and is now a first violinist and the Outreach and Education Co-ordinator for the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. She has been guest concertmaster for the Vector Wellington Sinfonia and currently leads the Jubilate Chamber Orchestra. Another string to her bow, is her cross-over jazz playing in her group, The Classical Jazz Quartet.
Bruce Roberts (trumpet)
Bruce is Principal Trumpet with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and has held similar postions with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and the Vector Wellington Orchestra. He has also appeared in concert with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in Brisbane Australia, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the Southern Sinfonia. Bruce has worked professionally in Europe. He presently teaches trumpet at Canterbury University and has an extensive private teaching practice in Christchurch.
