THE ARMED MAN: A MASS FOR PEACE - Queenstown
Location: St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church,
Region: Queenstown
Dates: Sat, 9 May 2015 @ 7.30pm
LEST WE FORGET
Commissioned by the Royal Armouries in 1999 for the Millennium celebrations and dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo crisis, this powerful but readily accessible and popular work is based on the traditional Latin Mass but uses texts and musical styles from many countries, as it takes the audience on a universal journey, descending from the illusory glory of war, through its terrible conflict and horrific aftermath, to finally emerge with a resounding call for peace.
All the performances will be set against the backdrop of a selection of compelling photographs, personally chosen and presented by Anna Humphries, whose unique perspective is the consequence of being the wife of Sergeant Major Adrian Humphries, who saw active service in the Royal Army Medical Corps.
This year Queenstown and Alexandra audiences will have the opportunity to experience this haunting and compelling work, when the Central Otago Regional Choir, conducted by John Buchanan, accompanied by a specially formed chamber orchestra present “THE ARMED MAN: A Mass for Peace.” Both performances will be set against the backdrop of evocative projected visual images, including choir members’ family wartime photographs, personally selected and presented by Anna Morley.
Don't miss this unforgettable and moving experience!
