3 Artists that explore their passions for the New Zealand landscape. Meeting at the Queenstown Art Society and sharing a studio this exhibition has culminated in a series of works at the ‘Cloakroom Gallery’, called “Postcards from Aotearoa”.
Sue Wademan one of New Zealand’s leading textile artists has won many art awards and prizes for her fabric collaged landscapes. They are jewel like expressions filled with patterns and emotions that reflect the soul within the land.
Karyn Hitchman since moving to Queenstown has followed her passions of painting and with her partner has a business which takes you into the landscape through guide walks and adventures. This can be seen in her recent paintings of nature showing the untouched qualities explored in the land, this being of constant inspiration.
Samantha Collyer with a background in Sculpture and a teacher in the Arts in Australia has found her love in the landscape of New Zealand. Since residing part time here she has moved into photography and collage, playing with the textural qualities of natural plant fibres and patterns seen in the land.
These women have worked together, walked amongst the land sharing conversations and ideas along with moments of synchronicity. They are exploring different art mediums with nature as a core ingredient in their lives and their work.
These artists are continually inspired by the power of ‘Aotearoa’; the works have been put together to create a series of postcard moments reflecting times spent climbing mountains, wandering the coastlines and journeying across the plains.
This exhibition is one not to miss. “Postcards from Aotearoa”, is a unique exhibition where you can capture and take home a small memory of the New Zealand landscape.
