New Work by Odelle Morshuis
Location: Mint Gallery - Dunedin
Region: South Island
Dates: Fri, 21 November 2014 - Thu, 4 December 2014
"Our eyes constantly roam picking up details here and there which catch our attention, my view is singular to me."
Odelle is a Central-Otago based artist of diverse talents and interests. The current themes of her work explore concepts of time and change, along with the artist/viewer perspective. Her unique methods involve the use of a video camera to gather information on a subject, then back in the studio, Odelle projects the video and draws and paints simultaneously to create a feeling of time and movement within a frame.
In some works, Odelle engraves on layers of glass in front of the paintings. The engraved lines and the distance of the glass from the painting adds a 3-dimensional aspect to the pieces. The artworks change depending upon light / shadows cast and angle of viewing. The use of glass not only protects the painting behind but extends the idea of the frame - reflections are created of the viewer and their own surroundings, including them into the work itself.
"My paintings create a narrative, every space has a story, a history of movement".
