Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells For Two - Wanaka
Location: Central Lakes Trust Crystal Palace
Region: Wanaka
Dates: Fri, 19 April 2013 @ 8.30pm
Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells in 1973 was perhaps the most unlikely smash hit record ever released. Now 40 years later, two Aussie musicians perform this work in full and with no extra hands.
Multi-instrumentalists Daniel Holdsworth and Aidan Roberts frantically juggle pianos, organs, electric, acoustic, bass and Spanish guitars, mandolin, tuned percussion, drums, glockenspiel, loop pedals, synthesizers and, of course, tubular bells.
It sounds completely chaotic, but somehow they pull it all together, bringing Oldfield’s masterpiece
to life with all of its multi-layered madness and subtle beauty intact.
This show sold out in the Wellington Festival and again in Edinburgh.
