Ceramicists Madeleine Child and Philip Jarvis' work is both playful and poignant. They privilege iconic kiwi summer motifs: popcorn, cheezels, sandcastles, bbqs and the caravan. In immortalising such subjects within a fine art context Child and Jarvis celebrate not only our lifestyles but remind us of the importance of simple pleasures: lazy days, breathing space, time spent with family and friends. However, in subtly evoking those seemingly never-ending, long, hot childhood summers, Child and Jarvis also reminds us how fleeting and transient those precious moments are.
