Dr. Jane Malthus is a dress historian and an expert on this subject. Come along to learn about Naseby farmer, the late Eden Hore and his fascination with New Zealand designers during the 1970's. Recently purchased by the CODC the collection includes 276 items, and is the only private collection of 1970s high fashion in New Zealand.
A glass of Central Otago wine and yummy nibbles included. Dress in 1970's if you feel like a joining for a bit of fun.
EDEN HORE COLLECTION
- The Eden Hore collection includes 276 items, and is the only private collection of 1970s haute couture in N.Z.
Leading Designers - This includes garments of leading fashion designers of the 1970s and 80s – including Kevin Berkahn, Vinka Lucas, Rosalie Gwilliam are just some of the names. The collection also includes a number of garments made by local designer Pat Hewitt from Alexandra.
- 1970s-80s NZ haute couture -There are a number of unique qualities about this collection:
- It represents the beginnings of the New Zealand’s fashion industry.
- It’s an example of haute couture of the 70’s and 80’s and because of this it has the ability to continue to inspire designers of today.
- It’s also a snap shot into New Zealand’s social history of the time.
Nationally and internationally significant - The collection includes gowns Eden Hore purchased in Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and it even includes the replica of Princess Anne’s wedding dress.
There are also some ‘risque numbers’ that Eden Hore had in his collection and some were exotic.
