Eastern Southland Gallery - Gail de Jong
Location: Gore
Region: South Island
Dates: Mon, 3 December 2012 - Sun, 27 January 2013
Gail de Jong's exhibition 'From this Broken Hill' opened at Eastern Southland Gallery in Gore on 3 December. Her nine large oil paintings reference the local landscape and its history as an area where there has been extensive modification of the land through gold mining activities such as sluicing and diggings. In her work, landscape is seen as a metaphor for the hardship many miners experienced as well as the courage and adventurous nature of many early pioneers in Central. 'From this Broken Hill' runs until 27 January.
