PKay Maracin

Old Jailhouse, 57 Erris St, Cromwell

American by birth, Germany for the career, Aotearoa for the love. After living on three continents I settled in Old Cromwell in 2007.

I have been working with textiles for over 50 years, learning to sew at a very young age. Fibre art is most fulfilling. It enables you to become the person you want to be and surround yourself with things you love. Some things you make are for fun and whimsy, others for a lifetime. I am a member of Creative Fibre NZ, head of the Sewing Guild, teach sewing, and am Chair of the annual ACE Visual Arts Exhibition.

Becoming semi-retired allowed me to refocus my life. My curiosity about and love of fibres have drawn me towards weaving. I was always very curious having visited Mexico and India numerous times, and marvelled at their skills and pieces. I am very much influenced by the colours and forms of Latin America and indigenous arts.

You are welcome to visit me in my studio where you can watch me in the weaving process, and ask any questions about weaving. You can also purchase any of my items available (cash, card).

Open when the sign is out, by chance, and by appointment.
