Exploring identity.
Ninety is an evocative and moving installation of 90 handstitched and dyed textile works, each piece representing a year that the artists grandmother lived without her mother. Victoria Steven's grandmother died in childbirth in 1925 in Central Otago leaving three children aged 3, 2 and 1.
Ninety is a very personal journey exploring notions of identity, social history, domestic arts, poetry and inherited memory.
