  • Annie - Showbiz Queenstown

Leapin' lizards!  Annie is coming!  The timeless tale of Little Orphan Annie is back, giving a whole new generation the chance to experience this classic musical about never giving up hope.  Annie is directed by well known Queenstown theatre people Lisa Moore and Marty Newell and choreographed by Anna Stuart.

With little fanfare, “Little Orphan Annie” disappeared from the comic strips in 2009 after an 86-year run, but Showbiz Queenstown is making sure she is not forgotten.

The spunky redheaded orphan is still going strong in the award-winning Broadway musical “Annie” that the strips inspired. A family favourite since it premiered on Broadway in 1977, “Annie” features a large cast, performing familiar songs such as the eternal anthem of optimism “Tomorrow”, “It’s a Hard Knock Life” and “Easy Street’. Joined by her beloved dog Sandy, Daddy Warbucks, and the menacing Miss Hannigan, Annie and the orphans are involved in fun-filled adventures as she foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations and finally finds happiness.

In addition to Annie and her fellow orphans (aged 6 to 13), key characters include billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his faithful secretary Grace Farrell, the disillusioned and evil matron of the orphanage Miss Hannigan, her brother ‘Rooster’ and his girlfriend Lily, who pose as Annie’s parents to get reward money, and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Tickets from $15 to $45 for children and $29.50 to $55 for adults are available at Eventfinda or www.showbizqt.co.nz
