Richard Mapp - Pianist
Location: Coronation Hall, 37 Hall Rd, Bannockburn
Region: Bannockburn
Dates: Sat, 15 September 2018 @ 3pm.
Richard Mapp is one of NZ’s most loved and accomplished pianists. He has performed widely in Europe and Australasia, as soloist with all New Zealand’s professional orchestras, has recorded as soloist with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and has taught at the New Zealand School of Music. In association with Chamber Music NZ, for whom he first toured while still a student and many times subsequently, we are delighted to finally have him perform for us. Richard will be playing a range of influential works in a concert that is a piano lovers’ fantasy. Opening with an inventive pair of compositions by Bach, reminiscent of his passion music, the programme moves to No 5 of Five pieces for piano by well-known New Zealand composer Kenneth Young, before the first half concludes with another favourite, Schubert’s stormy and playful but nonetheless delightful set of Three Piano Pieces. The poetic grief of Chopin’s Nocturne starts the second half before moving to Messiaen’s beautiful meditation on biblical themes and concludes with the lush and romantic music, ever popular with listeners and performers, - Brahms’ Seven Fantasies. A programme you will savour as it explores the full range and power of the piano.
Tickets: Adults $25: SuperGold $20; Student/Child $5. On sale now from all Central Otago District iSites. Door sales also available.
