Dunstan High School presents, 'The Sound of Music'.
Location: Alexandra Memorial Theatre
Region: Alexandra
Dates: Wed, 22 May 2019 - Sat, 25 May 2019 @ Daily.
To celebrate its sixtieth anniversary on the stage, Dunstan High School is proud to bring you the classic musical The Sound of Music. Featuring beloved songs such as My Favourite Things, The Lonely Goatherd, Edelweiss, So Long, Farewelland many other treasured tunes, The Sound of Music has something to appeal to everyone.
The story of young nun, Maria Rainer, is well known to us all. We follow her journey as she searches for her place in the world. When she meets widower, Captain Georg von Trapp, her world changes. She first falls in love with his seven talented children and later with the man himself. What follows after is thrilling and courageous as the family plans to escape from the Nazi threats that descend like a thunderstorm around them.
Our production seeks to capture the joy of the music and the fun of Maria coming into the lives of the von Trapp children, who have been mourning the loss of their mother for many years. We try to stay true to the original story in so far as capturing the drama of the family’s escape from Austria and the very real peril of the Nazi threat.
*This year, we are doing something a little different. Our Friday evening show will start a little earlier at the time of 7:00pm and we are having a ‘participation night’. These evenings have been popularised with many other musicals and this is a chance for us to extend the fun for our true-blue Sound of Music fans. There will be opportunities to sing along to your favourite songs, help the actors with remembering their lines, prizes for our best dressed and many more fun things.
22nd May, 7.30pm.
24th May, 7pm (participation night).
25th May, 2pm and 7.30pm.
