Creative Writing Classes - Diane Brown

Casual Saturday Classes: Alexandra
One off Saturday classes focus on facilitated writing exercises around specific areas of writing and are designed for writers of all levels. Class exercises can re-energise your enthusiasm, and stimulate your imagination. Students find them entertaining and helpful in developing confidence. In order to ensure a good quality of feedback each course will be limited to 12 participants. Courses undertaken will be dependent on minimum numbers for each. All previous Creative Writing Otago students of courses of longer than a week will be given a discount of $10.
Both classes will be held at Henderson House. 13 Earnscleugh Rd, Alexandra. Park up driveway.
So You Want to Write?: This day will focus on developing a voice of your own. We will look at where you get ideas from and how to transform ideas into stories or poems.
Saturday 19th September. Alexandra. 10.30 am to 3.30 pm. Morning tea provided, bring your own lunch. $50 GST payable by 16th September.
Short Stories, Real or Imaginary: This day will focus on creating a compelling short story in one day.
Saturday 17th October. Alexandra. 10.30 am to 3.30 pm. Morning tea provided, bring your own lunch. $50 payable by 14th October.
Course tutor is Diane Brown, award winning poet, novelist and memoirist. She won the Janet Frame Memorial Award in 2012 and the Beatson Fellowship for 2014. Diane has been teaching creative writing for 20 years, first in Auckland and later in Dunedin where she was the co-ordinator and tutor for Creative Writing at Aoraki Polytechnic in Dunedin for 9 years. Her seventh book, a poetic memoir,Taking My Mother to the Opera, will be published by Otago University Press in October.
