Artbay Gallery - Emma Butler
Location: Artbay Gallery, Marine Parade, Queenstown
Region: Queenstown
Dates: Tue, 19 December 2017 - Tue, 2 January 2018 @ 10am - 5pm daily.
Emma has been a practising artist since completing her degree in Textiles at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK in 2001. Specialising in Print, Emma was awarded a First Class Honours Degree.
She went on to win the “Best Use of Colour” Award, sponsored by Dulux paints at the prestigious New Designers Exhibition in Islington, London, England. After designing a paint range based on four of her paintings, Emma embarked on her professional career as an artist aged 21 and has been painting ever since.
Emma uses acrylic to great effect on paper and canvas, and is well known for her Ruby character, inspired by the Otago gold mining village, near Queenstown. Emma's collectable Ruby paintings exude joy and happiness.
Recently Emma has been developing a series called 'Porcelina' a collection of female portraits in oil on canvas. Each has an individual story or narrative.
Emma believes:
'Everyone has a story to tell and every story is valid and has a right to be heard. I try and capture this in the portraits I paint. I am continually fascinated to explore colour and its relationship with emotion and atmosphere.'
Emma has been published by Hallmark Cards and by Image Vault of Christchurch.
Emma work is in many private collections around the world and she is represented by galleries both here in New Zealand and England and has exhibited in New York.
