"I use roadside rubbish collected from outside my home in Gibbston. I sort and clean this rubbish and flatten the discarded aluminum cans. Certain pieces are then collaged with printed transparencies to make up the artwork. The remaining rubbish is taken to the tip or recycling station.

These artworks address a theme relating to the effect of consumerism and tourism on the Otago environment and rubbish informs us about changing patterns in contemporary society. Ten years ago, my rubbish collection consisted of drink bottles, Winfield cigarette packets, old cds and tapes. Today, I collect disposable coffee cups, (mostly mocha and chocolate), drink bottles, RTD and energy drink cans, fast food wrappings, poly pieces off the back of builders’ ‘utes’ and Holiday cigarette packets. And, Kane, don’t throw your BP cup out the window; twice I have found cups with your name on it."
