Celebrating 150 years of Gold

Supported by Central Lakes Trust, Alexandra Community Arts Council and Ophir Welfare Committee 

*    Unveiling ceremony of interpretation panel,  1:00pm

*    Horse drawn Mail Coach (Gold Coach) arrives 10:30am,  rides from 11:00am

*    Letter writing activity for the children using nib and ink to hand frank and post from the historic Ophir Post Office

*    Vintage car display and rides courtesy of the Bob Turnbull Trust and the Central Otago Vintage Car Club

*    Musical entertainment featuring the Goldminers Band and Sam Leask & Friends

*    Quilting Display and Devonshire Tea in the Ophir Hall

*    Gold panning demonstration by expert goldminer Bud Hyndman 12:30pm

*    Blacksmith display

*    Wine tasting

*    Sausage sizzle

*    Display of gold mining history and art works by the children of Omakau School

*    Guided tour of the Post Office

*    Unguided walk through the historic village ~ the Old Courthouse will be open to the public

*    Blacks Hotel,  Pitches Store and local businesses will be open on the day

*    Market stalls

*   Garden Tour – Blacks Homestead, Booth Road, 1.30 – 4.00pm

*   Ophir Pool open for swimming at special Gala rates – Adults $1 and children 50cents (Children must be supervised)

Note: Ophir Bridge Road will be closed at Daniel O’Connell Bridge (old suspension bridge.) Acess to Ophir is via Ida Valley-Omakau Road

Free Parking adjacent to Blacks Hotel
